New Years Resolution #1: Make Internet Safety a Priority

Internet Safety, Online Predators, Parenting

It’s December - a time to reflect on the year gone by and the year to come.

Everyone always has high hopes for the new year. We make our new years resolutions and hope (or prey) we can stick to them. I’ll admit it. I’m one of those people. Yes, I make my list of resolutions and by February they’re a distant memory. Well not this year. No way!

In hopes of actually honoring my resolutions in 2009, I thought I’d publicly list them right here on Teen Checkup. Today, I hereby state that my first resolution will be to actively protect children from Internet dangers.

Did you know that the average age for a child’s first Internet porn exposure is eleven?

Scary, right?

This is why we all need to vow to protect our kids from cyber threats and parents, it starts with you.

Here is a list of Internet safety resources that I plan to use come January 1st.  I hope you will join me and do the same.

Excellent Internet safety tips - KidsHealth.com (Great tips for helping the family stay safe online)

American Library Association - Great Websites for children (700 terrific and safe sites for children online)

GetNetWise - Online Safety Guide , Tools for families , (Great site for all things cyber safety)

KidsWatch- Parental Control Software Solutions (Excellent parental control software)

Enough is Enough - www.enough.org

(This website is loaded with any information a parent wants to know about all of the issues in cyber world.)
