Mixed Martial Arts For All Ages
March 11th, 2009 | by Paul Payton |Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting, and now mixed martial arts (MMA) is growing in popularity. But I feel like singing Carl Douglas’s line “In fact it was a little bit frightening.” Has MMA fighting gone too far? Should we sit and watch it on TV? Should kids be involved?
MMA has sanctioned fights which have resulted in the deaths of Douglas Dedge and Sammy Vasquez. Royce Gracie using Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to pulverize defeated opponents does not come off as good sportsmanship.
This is like a nightmare where every boxer has the personality of Mike Tyson. I suppose if you put mixed martial arts gloves on Tyson he would fit right in.
Bruce Lee is not the originator of MMA. Military training is its proper home. MMA was used in war to kill the enemy. It is called combat rage.
War is the right reason the Special forces are taught MMA. These battlefield skills when brought to the street and MMA events in London or New York are not glorious.
It could be good if your kids get involved in this kind of thing if the thugs of Chicago wanted a piece of your family. If the gun control laws of Illinois spread, it might make this a needed means of defence.
To be healthier, learn self-control, and respect are good reasons to teach your kids in a mixed martial arts academy. The spirit of MMA is where the problem lies.
Blood and gore are the focus of this in demand sport, not the sportsmanship, control or form. Are our kids are looking to see someone hurt?
MMA used for training can be good, but used as competition is mostly very bad. Learning form like boxing, wrestling, karate, or kickboxing is good for kids.
Let them put on their martial arts shoes and uniforms. Tie up their little white belts and give them a workout. Let them go at it with intent to win, but not intent to cripple their opponent.
The strength and skill gained can be used to defend their families or to be furthered by combat martial arts to defend their country. Do you know what I’m talking about Grasshopper?
