I've tried drinking water but it didn't help I'm coming out of cold. I keep having coughing spasms Anyways please help me.
There is no medical study that shows that "cough" medicine reduces coughing. (I know this from my kids pedi and the ER). The only medicine they can give that seems to have any effect is codeine. Codeine "may" reduce your cough, but also the cough may be protecting your lungs, so it also can be bad.
Home remedies are really your only hope, and probably the best thing for it (FOR A CHANGE!!)
It depends what is causing the cough. Since you're coming out of a cold, I'm guessing you have that nasty residual cough where you don't really feel sick but keep coughing anyway. An allergy cough or asthma cough might be helped by treating the underlying condition. An uncomplicated (no pnumonia for example) from a cold is REALLY tough. In a healthy person, a cough can last a month after the actual cold has gone. Drinking water will only soothe a tickle in the throat for a minute or two.
Here is my cough regimen:
1. Lots of fluids (water, soup, tea, etc)
2. reduced dairy, no milk
3. Steamy showers, humidfier in the bedroom at night.
3. Nice cool bedroom, 60 would be great if it was humid.
4.. Vicks in any form if you have it. (gel, cream, plug ins, for the vaporizer, it really does soothe)
5. During the day, try lollipops or lozenges.
6. BLOW THAT NOSE…REALLY GOOD.
Otherwise you just have to suffer through and try not to cough till you puke. Write it down on the calendar so you can remember if it happens again next year at the same time. This might help a spring allergy.

I've been smoking for nearly 20 years now and i suddenly got this awful cough. I keep coughing constantly and it seems no end of it. I keep drink the liquid coughing medicine, water, tea, but still i continue to cough. Is there other effective ways for me to stop coughing? Thanks
I been smoking for 24 years. My father for 50, and my grandparents over 60, and none of us have a constant cough like you described. I'd see a Dr. to find out the real cause.

2 weeks ago i was diagnosed with bronchitis, ear infection. I feel much better but i cant stop coughing. Its not a dry cough really. Its clear mucous. I feel like its overwhelming to keep coughing over and over. I dont know when this will stop. What do you know about this?
I’ve had bronchitis many times; and my cough has always lasted way beyond when I start to feel better. The cough could last anywhere from 2-5 weeks after. Just suck on some peppermint lozenges, Werther’s Originals, life savers, lemon drops or whatever you have. That should help some.

Every time I eat I start coughing AFTER I have finished my meal. You know the feeling when you are starting to get sick and there is stuff in your throat and it makes you cough?
This is how it feels after eating. I can actually feel something in my throat and I cough and have to clear my throat for about an hour after every meal. It is VERY annoying!
What is this? How do I make it go away?
It sounds like you have acid reflux. The digestive fluids in your stomach go back thru the cardiac [ valve from esophagus to stomach ] sphincter to your esophagus, causing that gagging, coughing feeling.
Try:
1] smaller, more frequent meals
2] don't lie down after eating - wait 4 hrs before going to bed
3] wear looseclothes [ waistbands, belts ]
4] loose weight if you are too heavy
5] elevate the head ofyour bed
6] a spoonul of vinegar works
IF this doesn't help, see your doctor, before it progresses to cause damage to your esophagus.

I think it's been burned into mostly all of our brains from childhood that you need to cover your mouth with either your hand or your arm when you cough, but I was just wondering how is it different than just breathing normally? Do more germs come from coughing than simply exhaling?
something triggered the coughing that gave you a great force to expell whatever it is that you have to expell. that made coughing different from exhaling (in a germ point of view).
with exhaling, you just exhale used oxygen; while with coughing, you are actually releasing some germs from your throat.
