What could it mean to cough up this color phlegm? (dark yellow)
It just started yesterday… what are some home remedies or comfort tips? Thanks!
It's pretty normal at times…drink plenty of water…as the last guy said…drink and drink and drink… If not, maybe drink something that is soothing to your throat.

lots of water, like half a gallon a day, to keep her hydrated and her secretions loose. a humidifier helps too. the colored phlegm is because of an upper respiratory tract infection so get some antibiotics too.

Yellow phlegm means that its been in the lungs too long. You can have the person lay on their side while you cup your hands and sort of play the drums on your friends ribcage and back, it called chest percussion or in the Respiratory Therapy world " Chest Physio Therapy". prepare for a lot of coughing and spitting of nasty phlegm. Your forearms will get very tired quickly. but move from bottom to shoulders this should clear out the lungs of nasty old secretions.FYI green secretions mean infection not yellow

The culprit is either viral or bacterial, either way, the BEST thing
I've ever tried works every time.
Buy a small bottle of cinnamon oil, one of clove oil, and one of thyme oil, but get them from a healthfood, or herbal shop.
Boil (1) pint of distilled water, pour into a large bowl and add (3)
drops each of the oils.
Cover the head with a towel so your sick one can breath in the vapors. It's a little spicey the first breath or two, but the more he/she can do this it will kill whatever it is and clear up the problem. All three of these oils have a 'natural' antibiotic affect
and really do work. Get started now before this stuff goes into
Phneumonia

This is the color associated with staphylococcus aurius.. best get some antibiotic going soon.. Before other opportunists (eg: strep) decide to join the lowered resistance of the body.
