NO, it's NOT normal………and could be a sign of bronchitis among other things or serious chest infection. I don't know about anyone else……..but breathing problems are always fairly serious to ME!

Don't worry about it. You're just battling an infection.
When it turns red this means haemoptysis - then you can worry a bit.

That can be normal with a cold or chest infection. You create a lot of mucus to deal with the virus.
As long as it is green, you are okay. Look for blood.
If it lasts for more than 4-5 days, see a doctor.

i think it's a part of the process. you will worry if there's blood in phlegm or a strange wheezing sound when you cough.

they used to say that green meant infection but since then have dissed that. green jsut means it was sitting in your chest for awhile before it comes up. i agree with watching for blood. also if you can't catch your breath or your fingers/toes start to turn blue (which is like a 1 in 1,000,000) chance so don't worry. if you want some relief, go get some mucinex dm if you can take cold meds no prob. works wonders with me!

Some may say that you need a course of antibiotics because it sounds like you have an infection. There is a Hungarian remedy if you could stand it - boil an onion and drink the residue. This lifts the phlegm off your chest. This does work and is used by the Hungarians for adults and children who have respiratory problems.

If this lasts for less than a week, it is probably a virus that will go away on its own. If it lasts for more than 7-10 days, it is likely a bacterial infection and you may need antibiotics. It is always safest to go to the doctor if you can, just to be sure.

Actually, clear or yellow phlegm is quite normal. Green phlegm is usually a sign of infection. Please see your GP as you may need antibiotics.
