What are the best cough drop/lozenge or any other remedy for coughing and sore throat?

Help! I have lost my voice and I have a horrible cough that hurts. My throat isn't terribly sore but my chest is. I would like some kind of lozenge to help my voice and possibly stop me from coughing. I don't react well to most over the counter medicines and cough syrup…they usually either put me to sleep (even the non drowsy kind) or they just don't work. I would really like some suggestions on home cough remedies and lozenges to help me feel better.

I hate being sick!!!!! I just don't have time for it!
I have a cold
I can't use strepsils….I live in the U.S., they are only available in the UK…thanks though

What's really good is just hard candies, like peppermints or lemon drops. For lozenges, choose one with menthol or honey-lemon. You should be steaming yourself, too. In a warm shower, then with a coolmist humidifier as you sleep.

What is it like to die of pneumonia in an 94 yr old dementia patient ?

My dad is in dementia and lives far away and he has pneumonia and they have him in the hospital. I know a lot of times frail people like him die and I expect that, but what is it like to die from pneumonia, ? Is it painful ??? do they keep them sedated ?? What is it like ? He has smoked for 80 years and I really don't see him coming home, but since I can't be there because I am sick, chronic, what is death to pneumonia like in elderly frail people. ?

Don't worry. They'll keep him comfortable and sedated. He won't suffer. My Mom was at the point where she needed a respirator to breathe and she had made it clear that she did not want to live that way. We had them remove it, but first asked the doctors straight up if this was going to cause her a lot of distress. They said no and assured us that she was heavily sedated and wouldn't suffer. We were there when they removed her from the respirator and it was just like she was going to sleep.

I'm sorry about your Dad, but rest assured the doctors have the means and will do everything possible to keep him comfortable. Best of luck to you.

how can you tell the difference between pneumonia and a cold flu and cough?

how long does it take to progress into something serious. like say you get sick start coughing and think you are sick then you make an appointment to see a doctor in a week. can the pneumonia spread super fast and kill you? i mean if you are elderly and you are trying to see a doctor as fast as you can but say you cant get in for a week. or you dont think it is serious… until it is very developed. can it develop in a week?

Pneumonia is the lung's reaction to a bacterial or viral infection in the lungs, and it can develop as quick as a day. If you feel like you have something worse than a cold, then instead of waiting for a Doctor go to an ER or better yet go to a walk-in clinic and let them know of your symptoms. They will do a chest x-ray to determine if you have pneumonia. Signs of pneumonia include a "wet" chest, coughing up sputum that is green or yellow colored and/or foul smelling, shortness of breath, and possible fever. Most common sign is shortness of breath.

How do I get rid of phlegm in my throat?

I work in a call centre and for the last month, I've noticed (probably because I've been talking constantly) that I have a consistent buildup of phlegm in my throat and that I'm coughing every twenty minutes or so in an attempt to clear it - often in the middle of a call. I'm not a smoker, and I drink a lot of water - I'll go through at least 2L in a day. It's starting to annoy my co-workers, understandably, and it's also causing my voice to crack and waver on the phone. I don't feel sick and when I am able to cough phlegm up (which isn't often - it feels constantly stuck in there) it's clear, which would suggest that it isn't a sinus or bronchial infection. I never drink soda, generally avoid sugary food, and never drink milk as I'm lactose intolerant. So what the heck is going on? And more importantly, how do I fix it?

do you suffer from allergies (even seasonal ones)?

allergies can cause phlegm buildup in the back of your throat which can cause irritation.

try taking an over the counter non-drowsy allergy medication or talk to your dr about taking a once daily pill.

otherwise try sucking on hard candies or ice throughout the day to help.

i have severe allergies and i often have buildup in the back of my throat as well. i take once daily allegra-d and it seems to help quite a bit

good luck

Ive been really sick for the past few days and started coughing up phlegm.

I have a fever and a sore throat, which just makes the phlegm and coughing hurt more i guess. I have no apetite for food either. I cant go out and buy any special remedies or stuff since im not even 14 yet.

How can i get rid of the phlegm with household supplies?

buy strepsils.. it will make ur sorethroat less painful and makes u feel relaxed… and try not drinking cold drinks and food.. try soups and the like…use bactidol or any mouthwas right after you brush ur teeth so the bacteria inside your mouth will be removed.. and lasty.. try asking your parents about it…
